17 Day Diet

About the 17 Day Diet

The 17 Day DietThe 17 Day Diet, created by Dr. Mike Moreno and featured on the Dr. Phil Show as well as The Doctors, is a cycled eating plan. This causes "body confusion" and gets the metabolism going quicker. The amounts of carbohydrates, proteins and fats vary every few days. The foods on the plan are healthier and items such as sugar, fried and processed foods are avoided. The plan also includes a 17 minute workout which can be done daily.

The 17 Day Diet utilizes four cycles:
  • Cycle 1: Accelerate. Encourages rapid weight loss, cleansing and fat burning. Discourages fat storage.
  • Cycle 2: Activate. Resets the metabolism.
  • Cycle 3: Achieve. Develop good eating habits, re-teach yourself how to eat carbs.
  • Cycle 4: Arrive. A combination of the first three Cycles. On weekends, enjoy your favorite foods.
  • The 17 Day Diet also features a 17-minute exercise routine you should do as well as tons of tips and strategies to avoid food pitfalls.

TACO SALAD (4 servings)

1 pound of lean ground turkey
1 envelope of taco seasoning
Generous bed of lettuce
1 cup chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup chopped onions
Salsa
1/3 cup shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese

In a saucepan, brown the ground turkey over moderate heat. Add one envelope of taco seasoning and cook according to package directions. Place generous servings of lettuce on four plates. Top with turkey mixture, tomatoes, onions, salsa and cheese.
EGG-WHITE VEGGIE FRITTATA (2 servings)

4 egg whites, beaten
1 Roma tomato, chopped
Fresh spinach, handful
Salt and pepper, to taste

Coat a small frying plan with vegetable cooking spray. Add beaten egg whites. Stir in tomato and spinach. Cook on medium-low heat until egg whites are cooked through. Lift from pan with a spatula, and season lightly as desired.
MEXICAN CHOCOLATE PUDDING (4 servings)

12.3-ounce package silken extra-firm tofu
5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tablespoons sugar-free chocolate-flavored syrup
2 teaspoons Truvia
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon or less cayenne, optional

Place all the ingredients in a large food processor. Cover and process until smooth, about 1 minute, scraping down the inside of the bowl at least once. Divide into four ramekins or small bowls; serve immediately or refrigerate.

Tip: It’s important to get the silken extra-firm tofu. Mori-Nu sells it in packages that are shelf-stable, no refrigeration needed. Please use cocoa powder, not hot cocoa mix. The pudding is not pourable but very thick. You have to scrape it out of the food processor. A blender will not work because the tofu is so thick.

GREEN TEA-SPIKED APPLESAUCE (4 servings)

4 medium tart green apples, preferably Granny Smiths, peeled, cored, and chopped
2/3 cup strong, brewed, green tea
2 teaspoons Truvia
4-inch cinnamon stick

Combine all the ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a bubble over medium heat. Cover, reduce the heat to low, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very tender, about 30 minutes. Discard the cinnamon stick. Mash into a thick purée with the back of a wooden spoon.

Tip: The applesauce can be served warm or cold. Leftovers can be stored in a covered container for up to 3 days. Even better, store in one-serving ramekins or containers.
17 DAY DIET COOKIE RECIPE (makes about 18)

1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
2 tablespoons almond paste
1 tablespoon flaxseed oil
10 packets of Truvia natural sweetener
1/4 cup agave nectar
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup vanilla whey powder
2 cups oats
1 cup dried cherries
1/2 cup sliced almonds

Directions: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Mix together the applesauce, Flaxseed Oil, Almond Paste, Agave Nectar and Truvia Natural Sweetener. Mix in the egg and vanilla until well incorporated. Add the baking soda, flour, salt, pepper and Vanilla Whey Powder. Mix in the Dried Cherries, almonds and oats. Drop the cookies by large tablespoons onto a cookie sheet sprayed with non-stick spray. Flatten the cookie dough with a spoon. Bake for 16-18 minutes or until golden brown. Cool and store in a covered container. Each cookie only has 128 calories and counts as 1 protein and 1 starch on the 17 Day Diet.
